ha ha im sure you have seen this question alot well here it is again lol.

Im making my own round pen for the summer. during the winter im going to use the barn (not the one the horses will be in they will be in something else my dad is making)

But how do you make horse jumps?

What would you suggest as poles? something hollow, or thick?

I will only make cavalettes (really dont know how to spell it) this year. so how would i make that?

  1. Cavaletti's are easy to make use a fencing post, so the round post you put in the ground  to make post and rail fencing, this can be painted in stripes round the post not along it, usually in two colours. Next you need two X's, being two pieces of wood  the same size crossed in the middle and nailed, the large the X the large the Cavaletti will be so why not make a few X's in different sizes for different size jumps.

Place the pole on the ground lift one end and put the x under it standing up so it sit where the two pieces of wood meet making the X. Nail pole to X and same with the other side. So you should have two X's with a pole between them, this is a cavaletti, turn the x over and it will adjust the jump height  the jump will be at its highest when the pole is at the top and at the lowest when the pole in at the bottom under the x.

  2. I completely agree with hmm 123 on the making of cavalettes, pony club made me a pro.

Also tires threaded onto poles and if you want to get really rustic, how about logs, i persuade daddy to move the fallen trees around the edges of his fields so when i hack, i have a lot to jump.

  3. ok.

u can buy polls.. not sure where tho

and tires or barrels are also good jumps.

    gd luck

  4. well, for cavalettis(don't know how to spell it either) you could just use wood but I  also found a website that shows you how to make your own cavaletti: http://www.texashorsemansdirectory.com/t...

For normal jumps I've seen a lot of videos of people jumping at home and you can use pretty much anything (ie two chairs and stick) but it deprnds also on the horse if he's really spooky or not.

    good luck!

    good luck!

  5. Deff thick and made out of wood. If not, the horse will just keep knocking them down and eventually purposely knock them down. For making them, you can use birch branches. Those look REALLY PRETTY. Get creative, but a safe creative lol.

For the cavalettes, I have no idea. Sorry. I'm sure there is some sort of instructional book that you can find on ebay or abes about how to construct them. I imagine just constructing four huge x's and nail and glue a pole in between.
