Making your own website?

I know way back when there were a few places where you could make a web page with no monthly fee. Do any of those exist these days? or did companies get money hungry.

Recommend you try Microsoft Office Live Small Business, a free service - http://tinyurl.com/officelive . It has a free design tool that allows you to create web pages without coding. It has no ads and has 500mb of web space. MS is giving a free domain name for the 1st year.

look into wordpress and Joomla.

These two will require a basic understanding of php and mysql. But you can run both for free on a local server until you perfect it. You can get dirt cheap hosting now a days after you get something tight together.
