Makkoveeva Polina beats Kim Sol h*i in qualifying round of the 2011 Russian Open Grand Prix
Russia’s Makkoveeva Polina defeated Kim Sol h*i of People’s Republic of Korea, in the opening match of the Women’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 Russian Open Grand Prix. The match was played in Russia, on Tuesday, June 28, 2011.
The local shuttler opened the game in an entertaining manner, as she employed her every skill to dominate the set and put pressure on her opponent. Kim worked hard to cope up with the pace of the rallies, but failed to maintain her control over the bird.
At the Interval, Polina was leading the game with a superb margin of 11-6.
After the break, Polina maintained the difference by remaining focused in the game and spared no chance for her opponent to play in aggressive fashion. She got a one-set advantage by clinching the opening game with a 21-13 margin, in just 12 minutes.
The second game was the most entertaining show of the day, as both ladies remained neck-to-neck to get an advantage in the match. Until the interval in the second game, no shuttler could manage a good lead.
Both shuttlers put up an entertaining show of top-class badminton after the interval. The score remained tied until 23-23, where Polina made a mistake and lost the second game with a tight margin of 23-25, in 20 minutes.
In the third game, Polina kept a firm hold on the pace of the game by playing to her full potential. Polina was also enjoying the support of the home crowd, who were cheering for every point she scored. At the interval, the Russian managed a comfortable
lead by reaching 11-7.
After the one-minute break, Polina put more speed in the game to maintain the gap. She was successful in building up pressure on her challenger. The Russian delivered a terrific performance in the final set and grabbed it in just 14 minutes, by putting a
21-14 score on the board. The 46-minute match finished with a margin of 21-13, 23-25 and 21-14.
