Zenit St. Petersburg goalkeeper reveals that Russian Premier League tie against Spartak has always been special for the entire team and both set of fans.
Zenit St. Petersburg goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vyacheslav-Malafeev-c36502, has called for the players to work hard and get over the slump after Luciano Spalletti’s men recorded their second draw of the third league round against Rubin Kazan.
He urged his teammates to alter the situation in the upcoming Russian Premier League tie against Spartak Moscow at Luzhniki stadium.
The St. Petersburg club have had a nightmare start to the third league round, having collected just 5 points in 4 outings. Aside from their poor form domestically, Zenit crashed out of the Russian Cup quarter-final after suffering
a 1-0 defeat against Dynamo Moscow at Petrovsky stadium.
The upcoming tie is taking place at Luzhniki stadium given the conditions of the poor fields in Russia. Malafeev revealed that the stadiums in Moscow are well maintained and neither team will have any problem with the pitch.
The Russian Cup winner revealed that the upcoming game will be a spectacle and assured the fans of winning the crunch league tie against the Moscow-based club. However, he warned his side against complacency and urged them to collect
more points if they are to retain the league title this season.
“I think it will be crucial two points. The nature of the game depends upon the psychological factor too. We know that the spectators are expecting too many goals in the upcoming game. Zenit need to be on their toes because they
cannot afford a single error during the tie.
“These meetings are filled with fighting spirit, uncompromising character and a lot of positive dedications from the players on both sides. I hope that the fans remember the upcoming game for a long time.” The UEFA Cup winner was
quoted as saying.
The last time these two teams met in a league competition, Spartak got away with a point after scoring a late equalizer in a 2-2 draw at home. Malafeev revealed that Zenit cannot afford to lose points this time around.
