The defending Russian Premier League champions, Zenit St. Petersburg, have been penalized by the Russian football union’s disciplinary committee to play their home matches without spectators until they make a final verdict regarding
the situation.
The St. Petersburg club are awaiting the court’s decision following the racism incident at Arena Khimki in which their fans reportedly hit Dynamo Moscow’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Shunin-c6283 with a fire cracker.
The match official’s abandoned the crunch league tie between the two teams before half-time after Shunin was taken to the nearby hospital in order to get medical treatment on emergency basis.
Vyacheslav Malafeev has lamented the situation and urged the disciplinary committee to have a closer look at the event. He bemoaned the racist activities in Russia lately and urged the concerned organizations to take necessary
steps against the guilty party.
“A team cannot do anything in this regard as this is the legal issues. We are waiting for the final verdict after what happened. We can do nothing but to remain calms and wait for the decision.”
“I cannot talk about the influence of the judgment as I am not a lawyer. But I want to tell our critics that they will not get any benefit from it.” The UEFA Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Speaking on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Miguel as team captain, Malafeev congratulated the Portuguese midfielder to receive the honour and told that Zenit have a more contenders for the position.
“There is no scandal behind the selection. We have players who regularly play for their national team and I think they all are capable of it. This thing makes us unique.” He concluded.
Malafeev, who was involved in Zenit’s 4-2 win against Spartak Moscow at Luzhniki stadium on Friday, hailed his side’s winning mentality after showing class and character at the same time.
As things stand, Zenit are at the 2nd spot on the league table, level on points with Anzhi Makhachkala but above the standings due to a higher goal difference.
