Malanos set to return with a bang in 32Red Supporting British Racing Handicap at Bath
There are surely many to consider, but it is worth chancing the fitness of Malanos, who is returning to action after a long break of almost six months.
The Tony Carroll-trained ran a few brilliant races last season. He faced plenty of embarrassment before getting off the mark on hurdling debut in November last year.
After opening the account in a tremendous style, the bay and brown gelding continued the superb work, and ran well towards the end of last year.
The 4-year-old registered his second triumph in March 2012, when proving too strong for Jubail and the rest in the Barratt Exclusive 5 Year Warranty Handicap Hurdle at Huntingdon. In the hands of Lee Edwards, he made all, and attained a handsome lead right
at the start.
A huge mistake in the middle stages created some mess for the big fellow, but he quickly recovered. He stayed on well to capture the first place easily by seven lengths.
A new lease of life came to him over hurdles last season. His earlier Flat maiden form is also good to suggest that he has enough skills to do well in this handicap company. A straightforward victory is not possible though, because there are 13 other quality
runners in the pack.
The spectators are also excited about this race, which will get started at 14:05 GMT. On Bath’s soft one mile, three furlongs and 144 yards, the participants will compete for a cash prize of £2,264.
April Ciel looked impressive when securing a couple of wins in June, including the one on soft. The Ronald Harris-trained is still in form, and can play a major role in Friday’s race.
Another interesting contestant is Aegean Destiny. She usually has a good spell in autumn, and should not be overlooked. Her trainer, John Mackie, also does not have a poor record here.
April Ciel and Aegean Destiny, both have to be considered, but it can pay to side with Malanos, who certainly has a few things going for him. Fully determined, the Irish runner is all set take a fresh start. Good luck to all the horses.
