Malaysia, England and Japan announce squads for the upcoming Sudirman Cup 2011 – Badminton News
Malaysia, England and Japan have announced their badminton squads for the upcoming Sudirman Cup: the biggest mixed team championship in the world of badminton.
Malaysia and England are relying on their experienced shuttlers in this event, whereas Japan is also sending some upcoming shuttlers along with veterans in the 20-member squad.
Malaysia’s team is comprised of young shuttlers along with some experienced players, including 34-year-old, Wong Choong Hann. Lee Chong Wei will be the leader of the Malaysian squad along with Chan Peng Soon and Chong Wei Feng. The World Number One will be playing in opening singles of the match, as he is the top seed in his team.
In Women’s Doubles, Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei h*i, along with Goh Liu Ying and Vivian Hoo of Malaysia will raise the Malaysian flag along with some younger shuttlers in the squad.
In Men’s Doubles, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat, Hoon Thien How and Chan Peng Soon are included in the team. In the Malaysian squad, many young players are included to give them exposure and experience by playing against the top athletes in the arena of the game.
England’s team is comprised of experienced shuttlers. Among the 13-member English squad, only two shuttlers, Carl Baxter and Chris Langridge, will make their first appearance in the Sudirman Cup. In the Men’s Singles, Baxter and Rajiv Ouseph will participate in the event. In Women’s Singles, Elizabeth Cann and Sarah Walker are part of the squad.
In Men’s Doubles category, Nathan Robertson, Chris Adcock, Anthony Clark, Chris Langridge and Andrew Ellis will fight for the glory of England. In Women’s Doubles category, Jenny Wallwork, Mariana Agathangelou, Gabby White and Heather Oliver will compete in the event.
From Japan’s team, Sho Sasaki, Kenichi Tago and Kazushi Yamada will play in Men’s Singles, whereas, Sayaka Sato, Eriko Hirose and Ai Goto will fight it out in Women’s Singles. In the category of Men’s Doubles, Kenichi Hayakawa, Hiroyuki Endo, Shintaro Ikeda, Hirokatsu Hashimoto, Shoji Sato, Noriyasu Hirata and Naoki Kawamae are part of the team.
In Women’s Doubles, Shizuka Matsuo, Reiko Shiota, Mami Naito, Satoko Suetsuna, Reika Kakiiwa, Mizuki Fujii and Miyuki Maeda will represent Japan in the Sudirman Cup.
