Malaysia Grand Prix Gold: Nan Wei beats Zi Liang Derek Wong in Men’s Singles round-of-16
Hong Kong’s Nan Wei defied all odds and reached into Men’s Singles quarter-final after proving his worth in the round-of-16 contest against Singapore’s Zi Liang Derek Wong at Yonex Sunrise Malaysia Grand Prix Gold 2013 in Malaysia, on Thursday, May 2.
The un-seeded Nan, who delivered a spectacular performance in all of his matches in this championship, did not show any mercy to his higher ranked Singaporean challenger and finished off the battle in a convincing manner.
Nan was in complete command of rallies as he played with greater level of precision and easily sent his rival packing in just 34 minutes with a comfortable 21-15 and 21-16 score on the board.
Meanwhile, the 15th seeded Zi Liang played competitive badminton at the initial stage of the contest but failed to put up strong show in the concluding points and lost the match in straight games without posing any threat to his lower ranked Hong
Kong challenger.
Nan delivered extremely well from the opening points of first set as he played with phenomenal speed and took over the control.
The un-seeded Nan proved that he has attained highest class skills in the arena and eventually successful in taking a strong domination in the arena.
Hong Kong shuttler was in dominating position as he played with greater level of precision and did not let his rival to find a good flow until the one-minute break.
The confused Zi Liang could not play positive game after the mid-game interval as he lost his focus in the arena.
Nan did not reduce the pace of the game at any stage and comfortably clinched the first set with a comfortable 21-15 difference on the board.
Things were similar in the second set of this entertaining fight as Nan continued playing aggressive game without showing any respect to his challenger.
Nan was in remarkable form and he remained successful staying in command. He did not face any considerable trouble from his higher ranked Singaporean challenger.
Zi Liang could not put up strong show in the second set of this battle as his opponent Nan played aggressive badminton and wrapped up the game with a reasonable total of 21-16.
