Malaysia International Challenge: Li Lian Yang penetrates into Women’s Singles quarter-final
Malaysia’s in-form player Li Lian Yang showed a wonderful performance in the arena and powered her way into Women’s Singles quarter-final of Maybank Malaysia International Challenge 2012, which is in progress in Malaysia.
In the round-of-16 contest, the in-form Li Lian showed a staggering performance and tamed Philippines’ Malvinne Ann Venice Alcala on Thursday, November 15.
The higher ranked local shuttler, who is the fifth seed in Women’s Singles draw in the tournament, played with terrific precision in the arena and managed to stamp her mark over Malvinne in just 28 minutes.
Li Lian was in terrific form as she did not take much time in winning this battle as she finished it up an easy fashion in straight games with a one-sided difference on score board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Malvinne could not match the speed and skills of her local challenger. She tried her best to create gaps but failed to execute her shots in right areas and crashed out at the top-16 stage.
In the first game, Li Lian was on a different level in starting rallies as she played with spectacular speed and occupied the driving seat at the initial stage.
Li Lian progressed with a superb speed as she did not miss any chance to build lead and stayed ahead on score board until the interval.
After the break, the un-seeded Malvinne tried her best but could not play positive badminton and she also lost her focus enabling her rival to stay ahead.
Li Lian did not let down the pace of rallies at any stage and remarkable grabbed the first set with a super 21-14 score on the board.
In the second set, the lower ranked Malvinne was again in all sorts of trouble as she failed to play attacking badminton and remained far behind on score board until the break.
After the interval, the lofty Li Lian did not show any mercy to Malvinne all the way and took the game with a stunning margin of 21-11.
The incredible Li Lian claimed victory in an inspiring fashion as she easily ended up this battle in just 28 minutes with a killing margin of 21-14 and 21-11.
