Malaysia International Challenge: Mei Kuan Chow and Meng Yean Lee secure Women’s Doubles title
Mei Kuan Chow and Meng Yean Lee, the most talented back-up shuttlers from Malaysia, lived up to expectations as they claimed Women’s Doubles title at the home event of Maybank Malaysia International Challenge 2012 on Sunday, November 18.
In the final battle, the in-form Mei Kuan and Meng Yean showed incredible performance against Indonesia’s Ririn Amelia and Melvira Oklamona and won the battle in a dominating fashion.
Mei Kuan and Meng Yean, who were top seeded shuttlers in Women’s Doubles main draw of the championship, remained in complete control and they easily pulled off by winding up the battle in straight games by taking 44 minutes in the arena.
In the meanwhile, the un-seeded Ririn and Melvira gave a good fight to their higher ranked local challengers but they remained unlucky in the ending points and eventually lost the battle in straight games with a reasonable margin.
In the opening set, Mei Kuan and Meng Yean performed remarkably well from the starting rallies as they were incredible fast in the arena and they easily set up a wonderful lead without taking much time.
The in-form Mei Kuan and Meng Yean were quite comfortable in getting the bird timely and did not encounter any problem in executing their strokes in targeted areas.
Mei Kuan and Meng Yean stayed in dictating position all the way to set up a phenomenal lead until the one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, the lofty Mei Kuan and Meng Yean stayed focused in the arena as they did not lose their focus and remained successful in keeping a good difference.
The positive and aggressive play of Mei Kuan and Meng Yean helped them to snatch the opening set of this final battle with a crushing 21-13 score on the board.
In the second set, the lower ranked Ririn and Melvira worked really hard and remained successful in staying close to their top seeded rivals until the one-minute break.
After the interval, both pairs continued putting up spectacular show and reached at 21-21 when Mei Kuan and Meng Yean controlled their nerves and managed to score ending points to end up the set with a close margin of 23-21.
Mei Kuan and Meng Yean won the Women’s Doubles title by finishing off the final battle with a 21-13 and 23-21 score on the board.
