Malaysia Open: Chan Peng Soon – Goh Liu Ying oust Jian Guo Ong – Yin Loo Lim in quarter-final clash
Malaysia’s best shuttlers Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying advanced into Mixed Doubles semi-final after beating their lower ranked compatriots Jian Guo Ong and Yin Loo Lim in quarter-final clash at Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012 in Malaysia, on Friday, May 4.
The World Number 9 Peng Soon and Liu Ying, how has been seeded number one in Mixed Doubles category in this championship, proved their superior position when they overpowered their compatriots in just 32 minutes.
Peng Soon and Liu Ying, who are bidding to earn good results in Olympic Games 2012, showed their supremacy in the court as they played with precision and registered a decent victory over their team-mates.
On the other hand, Jian Guo and Yin Loo gave a good fight to their higher ranked compatriots especially in the second game but failed to finish it well and crashed out with a tight score.
The lower ranked Malaysian couple played well and managed to take a small lead at the early stage of opening game.
However, they failed to maintain their elevated performance as their opponents played better game and levelled the score.
Until the one-minute break in this Mixed Doubles quarter-final clash, Peng Soon and Liu Ying were slightly ahead of their compatriots at 11-9.
After the break, the top seeds played with aggression and controlled the pace of rallies to stretch their lead.
They remained on track against their un-seeded opponents and took the set with a comfortable 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game, both sides entertained their home fans by playing remarkable badminton as they progressed closely.
The lower ranked Malaysians did not allow their senior opponents to take lead this time as they remained close on the board.
However, Peng Soon and Liu Ying played positive badminton and took a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the break.
After the interval, Jian Guo and Yin Loo played superb badminton and levelled the score at 14-14.
At this stage, both couples continued playing positive game and reached at 21-21 when Peng Soon and Liu Ying showed their elevated craft and took the set with a dramatic score of 23-21.
The top seeds won this entertaining fight in 32 minutes with a 21-14 and 23-21 margin on the board.
