Malaysia Open: Daren Liew overpowers R. M. V. Gurusaidutt in the Men’s Singles qualifying round
Malaysia’s Daren Liew remains lucky as he has won the Men’s Singles qualifying round match with a tight margin against India’s R. M. V. Gurusaidutt at the 2012 Malaysia Open Super Series in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Tuesday, January 10.
Daren, who has been positioned at number 47 in world standings, had to employ all of his skills to chuck out the spirited Gurusaidutt in a mouth-watering contest that ended in 60 minutes. The Malaysian remained lucky in the final game as he manage to win
the set with a tight score.
In the opening game, Daren was composed and quicker in all areas of the court. The wonderful reflexes of the Malaysian helped him to pick the bird early and he managed to put pressure on his Indian challenger, who remained closely behind him until the break,
when the Malaysian managed a lead of 11-8.
After the break, Daren continued his positive play and did not miss any chance to end the rallies from all areas of the court. His wonderful shot placement disturbed the tempo of Gurusaidutt, who was struggling to take the bird early. Daren ended the first
set in an impressive way by a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second game, Gurusaidutt came in the court in a different mood as he scored six consecutive points to reach 6-0. He did not show any mercy to his local opponent by playing at his best. The Indian continued his roller-coaster run in the second game
and ended it with a surprising margin of 21-13.
In the final set, both shuttlers displayed their impressive skills and remained toe-to-toe. Daren executed powerful smashes on the side lines of the court but failed to break the defence of his rival, who was also playing fast badminton.
Both men kept on playing killing badminton and reached at the concluding phase of the deciding game without taking any lead. The score was 23-23 when the Indian could not play positive game which helped Daren to take the final set with tight score of 25-23.
The end result of this impressive rubber-set match was 21-16, 13-21 and 25-23.
