Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012: Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao advance into Women’s Doubles final
Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao, talented shuttlers from Singapore, easily advanced into the Women’s Doubles final at the Malaysia Open GP Gold on Saturday, May 5, at Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
In the semi-final showdown, Shinta and Lei dashed the local hopes by beating Malaysia’s Liu Ying Goh and Yin Loo Lim.
Shinta and Lei, who are ranked at number 13 in the world and are the top seeds in Women’s Doubles draw of the championship, proved their superior position in the arena as they faced no trouble in beating the local shuttlers in a striking fashion.
The top seeded Singaporean shuttlers consumed 37 minutes in the court to stamp their supremacy over their lower ranked Malaysian rivals by ending the match in straight games.
On the other hand, Liu Ying and Yin Loo could not do much against the power play of their higher ranked opponents and disappointed the crowd as the duo failed to win any set.
In the starting rallies of first game in this semi-final clash, both sides played safe badminton while remaining positive in the court.
The top seeds tried to take a comfortable lead but failed as their local opponent were also positive.
The score remained quite close on the board until the mid-game interval in the opening set.
After the break, Shinta and Lei took over the control and started to push their opponents on back foot.
They played attacking badminton at this stage and remained successful in clinching the opening set with a three-point margin of 21-18.
In the second set, Liu Ying and Yin Loo played smart game and also took an early lead.
However, they failed to continue their positive run as their opponents increased their speed and ended the gap until the one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, Shinta and Lei occupied the driving seat by playing to their maximum potential and pushed their local opponents on back foot.
The Singaporeans were in command of rallies and they bagged the second game with a huge difference of 21-14.
Shinta and Lei wrapped up a sensational win in this semi-final clash with a comfortable 21-18 and 21-14 score on the board.
