Malaysia Open GP Gold: Anand Pawar trounces Andre Marteen in Men’s Singles first round
India’s Anand Pawar starts his campaign in a dominating fashion as he trounced Indonesia’s Andre Marteen in Men’s Singles first round at Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012 on Wednesday, May 2, in Malaysia.
Pawar, who has been placed at number 60 in world rankings, delivered remarkable performance in his first clash in the event and registered a comprehensive victory over Marteen.
The Indian shuttler was in wonderful aggression in the court and he thrashed his Indonesian opponent in straight games by working for just 34 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Marteen tried to put up strong show but failed to live up to expectations as his Indian rival was too strong.
The Indonesian lost the contest to Pawar in a one-sided manner with a comprehensive margin on the board.
In the first set, both players displayed their inspiring skills while remaining positive in the court. They played with impressive precision by employing their aggressive skills and remained close until 8-8.
Pawar changed his tactics at this stage in the opening half and managed a three-point lead of 11-8 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the Indian continued his aggressive play without showing any mercy to Marteen. He did not drop his speed and also placed his powerful shots in right areas.
Pawar was in complete command of the opening game and managed to bag it easily with a superb 21-13 score on the board.
In the second set, Marteen was the first to take a reasonable lead in the opening points but failed to maintain it as Pawar changed his strategy and levelled the score at 7-7.
Until the one-minute interval in the second set, Pawar was leading the game as he was moving ahead at 11-10.
After the interval, the Indian did not let his rival to dominate the pace at any stage. He continued playing positive game and dictated Marteen in all areas.
Pawar did not face any considerable trouble from his Indonesian opponent and wrapped up second game with a comfortable score of 21-15.
The Indian grabbed victory in his first-round contest in straight games with a 21-13 and 21-15 score on the board.
