Indonesia avoided drawing out blank in Women’s Singles event of Malaysia Open GP Gold as its shuttler Aprilla Yuswandari reserved her seat in quarter-finals by edging Ngan Yi Cheung in second round on May 3, 2012.
Both players took 50 minutes in court to display final margin of 21-10, 17-21 and 11-21 after three grueling sets.
Aprilla was bit scratchy in the start but she switched on the best in later stages and stole the limelight.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong girl fell significantly short of the formidable target as she got pale in front of her higher ranked rival in final two sets.
Yi Cheung took off in perfect manner but she could not enjoy a smooth flight as her opponent brought her down. She opened an aggressive attack in the first set of the match and gained an immediate advantage.
The platform of success was laid when she placed a remarkable total of 11-5 before the interval. She kept her challenger at lower end in later stages with some impressive stroke play and bagged first match point with a commendable margin of 21-10.
However, she could not carry this rhythm in next game as the Indonesian battled assuredly in second set and avoided a straight-set defeat.
World Number 49 shuttler Aprilla was just one step ahead initially but she made the difference with 11-7 until mid-game break.
She committed some unforced errors which allowed her competitor to narrow the gap but Aprilla reinstated her supremacy in the final stages.
The game was on a knife's edge with 19-17 when she put her opponent’s expedition to halt after this breath-taking situation and won final points to end second set with 21-17 margin on board.
This revised status of match score position brought life back into the contest as both contenders were now level at 1-1.
They remained neck-to-neck in first half of the decider and did not allow each other to form a decisive lead before the interval.
However, the later part of the decider completely belonged to the Indonesian girl as she pushed her rival into dark by clutching seven consecutive points to enter a match-sealing total of 21-11.
