Malaysia Open GP Gold: Busanan Ongbumrungpan ousts Aprilla Yuswandari in quarter-final showdown
Thailand’s Busanan Ongbumrungpan proved stole the limelight when she ousted the higher ranked Aprilla Yuswandari in Women’s Singles quarter-final of Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012 on Friday, May 4, in Malaysia.
The un-seeded Thai lady played remarkable well while playing against her higher ranked Indonesian opponent and bagged victory in a sensational manner.
Busanan was impressive in her temperament as she did not show any sign of confusion in the entire contest and easily wrapped up victory in straight games by taking just 29 minutes in the court.
Aprilla, who was the fourth seeded shuttler in the main draw of Women’s Singles category, could not do much to resist against the spirited Thai opponent and lost the match in a one-sided manner.
In the opening set, Aprilla tried to take an early advantage by playing with aggression but failed to overpower her lower ranked Thai rival who was impressive in executing powerful shots in right areas.
The score was 7-7 when Busanan geared up her speed and managed to set up an 11-7 lead over her opponent until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the Thai shuttler continued her positive and power play against Aprilla and did not drop her speed throughout the ending phase.
The Thai lady did not face any trouble from Aprilla in the opening set and took it with a superb 21-11 score on the board.
In the second game, both ladies again played positive badminton by keeping the pace of rallies at the maximum level.
Both played tremendous badminton and entertained the Malaysian fans with their impressive play.
Until the break, it was Aprilla who took a reasonable lead this time by reaching at 11-9.
However, the Indonesian could not maintain her superior position in the second set as her Thai opponent took over the control.
Busanan played flawless game in the concluding half as she increased her speed to take the bird early and manipulated all loopholes of Aprilla.
The Thai lady managed to dominate the pace of rallies at the ending points of second game and bagged the set with a comprehensive score of 21-14.
Busanan won this Women’s Singles quarter-final showdown in just 29 minutes with a 21-11 and 21-14.
