Malaysia Open GP Gold: P. V. Sindhu thrashes Kana Ito to surge into Women’s Singles semi-final
India’s P.V. Sindhu delivered a spectacular performance as she secured her berth in Women’s Singles semi-final after beating Japan’s Kana Ito in quarter-final showdown at Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012 in Malaysia, on Friday, May 4.
The World Number 26 Sindhu, who has been seeded at the top in Women’s Singles draw of the event, was a class above her lower ranked Japanese rival and easily stamped her mark over Kana in an impressive fashion.
Sindhu played remarkable game in both sets of quarter-final contest and overpowered her opponent with a decent margin by working for just 34 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Kana failed to maintain her wonderful form in the tournament while playing against the top seed as she could not match the skills and speed of Sindhu and bowed down to her in straight games.
In the first set of this quarter-final contest, both ladies played tremendous badminton and entertained the local crowd with their superb game plan.
Kana was impressive in the first game and remained close to Sindhu in the first half of opening set.
After the break, Sindhu tried to take charge of rallies but Kana was also playing fast and positive badminton.
The score reached at the concluding phase without giving advantage to any player.
However, Sindhu played better badminton in concluding points and wrapped up the set with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, Sindhu did not spare any chance for her Japanese rival to match the speed of rallies as she took the bird early and made Kana work hard to earn points.
Until the one-minute interval, Sindhu was leading the game as she was in complete control.
After the break, Kana tried to dictate the pace but failed to take the bird timely as her opponent injected more speed in her shots.
In the meanwhile, the top seeded Indian was quite composed in the court as she did not commit any mistake and bagged the set with an inspiring difference of 21-15.
Sindhu won this quarter-final fight in just 34 minutes with a 21-19 and 21-15 score on the board.
