Malaysia Open GP Gold: Tommy Sugiarto overpowers Sung Min Park in Men’s Singles second round
Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto powered his way into Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final after beating Korea’s Sung Min Park in Men’s Singles second round of 2012 Malaysia Open GP Gold on Thursday, May 3, in Malaysia.
The World Number 18 Sugiarto, who is third seed in Men’s Singles main draw of Malaysia Open, displayed his brilliant craft by playing at the highest level of the game and toppled Sung Min without showing any mercy.
Right from the starting points, Sugiarto took over the control of rallies and dictated his opponent by executing accurate strokes in right areas.
The main difference between both shuttlers was the speed of Sugiarto who remain quicker in all areas.
Until the mid-game interval, Sugiarto got a strong position by creating a difference of 11-3.
After the one-minute break, the higher ranked Indonesian played positive badminton against the Korean who played quivering game and remained struggling.
Sung Min committed many mistakes in the first set and also failed to take the bird timely against his Indonesian rival, who was playing with impressive control.
Sugiarto did not waste any time in finishing off the opening set in a remarkable fashion with a striking difference of 21-6 on the board.
In the following set of this Men's Singles battle, the Korean shuttler played well as compared to the opening game and remained close to Sugiarto until 8-8.
However, Sugiarto found good rhythm at this stage in the opening half and started to pace up his game.
The Indonesian was three points ahead of his Korean rival by reaching at 11-8 until the mid-game break.
After the 60-second break, Sung Min showed aggression in the court but failed to take any considerable benefit.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Indonesian was executing fast and powerful shots and stretched his lead without facing any problem from Sung Min.
Sugiarto remained in commanding position and easily ended the second game with a comfortable difference of 21-16 on the board.
The in-form Sugiarto bagged this Men’s Singles contest in two games by taking 29 minutes with a 21-6 and 21-16 score on the board.
