Malaysia Open: Koo Kien Keat – Tan Boon Heong punish Indian opponents in first round showdown
Malaysia’s best Doubles players Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong showed their aggressive approach when they hammered India’s Jagadish Yadav – S. Sanjeeth in Men’s Singles first round at the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Malaysia, on Wednesday, May
2.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong, currently ranked at number eight in world standings, could not deliver well in last week’s India Open where they lost at the quarter-final stage against the lower ranked Indonesian pair of Ryan Agung Saputra and Angga Pratama.
However, they seem determined to boost their confidence by performing well in the home event of Malaysia Open and they have started their campaign in a phenomenal fashion.
While talking about the loss in India Open, Boon Heong said that he failed to play well in that match.
He said, “The Indonesians won the opening game and I was screaming and shouting to lift my spirit and we won the second. In the decider, I didn’t serve confidently at the crucial part. The fear of losing was overwhelming and I couldn’t focus. This isn’t
new as I have been through the same situation before.”
However, Boon Heong also tried his best and employed everything he could possibly do to elevate his confidence.
He added, “It all goes back to training. I have been told to treat every back-up pair as though they are my number one enemy. Hopefully, I will be able to be as confident as I was before.”
In their first match in Malaysia Open, Kien Keat and Boon Heong played tremendous badminton against their Indian opponents and bagged the contest with a one-sided margin.
In the first game, the Malaysians found a superb start as they played flawless badminton with impressive precision and took a wonderful lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Kien Keat and Boon Heong did not spare any chance for the Indians to take over the control of the pace at any stage in the game. They took the set with a stunning 21-7 score on the board.
In the second game, Kien Keat and Boon Heong continued their roller-coaster performance in the game and remained successful in winning it with a one-sided 21-5 margin on the board.
The Malaysians ended the opening contest in a tremendous manner with a remarkable margin of 21-7 and 21-5.
