Malaysia Open: Lee Chong Wei is favourite, Lin Dan will play under pressure, says Tey Seu Bock
Tey Seu Bock, the Men’s Singles national coach of Malaysia, says that the World Number One Lee Chong Wei is the favourite for the title because the second seed, Lin Dan of China, will play under pressure in the 2012 Malaysia Open Super Series that is under
progress at National Sports Complex, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Tey Seu Bock, the Men’s Singles national coach, said that Chong Wei will play with confidence in the home event as he has already won seven editions of this tournament.
The coach also said that the World Number Two Lin Dan will play under pressure as he is going to win his first title in the Malaysia Open.
While talking about Chong Wei’s defeat from the hands of Lin in the final match of the 2011 World Championships, the coach said that the Malaysian shuttler was under pressure which helped the Chinese to win the title for the fourth time.
According to the coach, the situation is completely reversed this time as the Chinese will be under pressure and Chong will be the favourite who will not have any pressure at all as he has bagged several victories in this tournament.
Seu Bock said, "Lin Dan played without any pressure in the World Championships as he had won it three times previously. Chong Wei was going for his first and the pressure was too much which worked in Lin Dan's favour. It could be reversed in the Malaysia
Open this week,"
In the last week’s Korea Open Premier Super Series, Chong Wei defeated Lin in an epic three-set battle. Both shuttlers pushed each other to the limit as they played at the same level. It was a mentally and physically tough match and the Malaysian proved
his worth in the final set and won the battle.
While talking about Chong Wei’s prospects at the Malaysia Open, the coach said that even if Chong Wei fails to win the title, it will not be alarming as he has already won the seven editions of this event.
Seu Bock said, "Even if Chong Wei loses this week, he has won the Malaysia Open seven times but Lin Dan is chasing his first and may not play anymore next year. So, the pressure is on Lin Dan but Chong Wei must focus on his performance. I feel he can do
well."
Chong Wei has already defeated Lin for two times in Malaysia Open and if things go according to the paper, both shuttlers will meet again in the final of the current event.
