Malaysia Open Super Series: Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl bag Women’s Doubles title
Denmark’s top shuttler, Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl, have bagged Women’s Doubles title after trouncing their higher ranked opponents, Ha Jung Eun and Kim Min Jung of Korea in the final match of Malaysia Open Super Series 2012 on Sunday, January 15, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The World Number 10 ranked pair of Pedersen and Juhl, who were seeded at number seven in Women’s Doubles draw of the tournament, proved their mettle and thrashed the World Number Three pair of Jung Eun and Min Jung in straight games.
The Korean shuttlers were seeded at number two in the event and played superb badminton in the whole tournament. However, they could not dominate the game against the in-form Danish shuttlers and lost the final encounter in 39 minutes without taking even a single game.
In the opening set, both pairs played fast badminton until 4-4 when the Danish duo lifted up their level and managed a good lead of 8-4. However, the higher ranked Koreans played positive game and levelled the score by reaching 8-8.
The un-seeded Pedersen and Juhl changed their tactics and played aggressive strokes to reach at 11-9 until the break in the opening half of first game.
After the break, Pedersen and Juhl accelerated their speed and started to execute powerful smashes and wonderful net killings. On the other hand, the Korean pair remained closely behind their rivals but failed to level the score.
Pedersen and Juhl controlled the pace of rallies and ended the first set with a narrow margin of 21-19.
In the second game, Pedersen and Juhl opened the game in a composed way and remained ahead until 9-6, when the Koreans played well and managed to level the score at 9-9. However, Danish pair established a small lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Pedersen and Juhl again took over the control and remained ahead of their higher ranked Korean challengers. They did not commit any mistake in the concluding phase of the second game and won it with a margin of 21-18.
Pedersen and Juhl emerged as the winner of the final contest with a decent 21-19 and 21-18 score on the board.
