Malaysia Open Super Series: Fang Chieh Min and Lee Sheng Mu penetrate into Men’s Doubles final
Chinese Taipei’s Fang Chieh Min and Lee Sheng Mu deliver a phenomenal performance as they have entered into Men’s Doubles final after beating higher ranked Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata of Japan in the semi-final of Malaysia Open Super Series 2012 on Saturday, January 14, in Kuala Lumpur.
Chieh Min and Sheng Mu, who are placed at number 13 in Men’s Doubles world standings, surprised the huge local crowd by playing fabulous badminton against the higher ranked Hashimoto and Hirata, who have been positioned at number eight in the world.
The Taipei pair put up terrific show of top quality badminton and won the fight in an entertaining rubber-set battle by taking 52 minutes in the court.
The Japanese shuttlers, who were seeded at number six in the Men’s Doubles draw, failed to live up to expectations as they could not dominate the pace of rallies in the final game and lost the match without impressing the crowd.
Right from the starting points, both pairs played remarkable badminton and pushed each other in all areas of the court. The tempo of the game was fast and both sides remained close until the end of opening half.
After the break, both sides continued playing positive and aggressive game and reached at the ending points without taking lead. At this stage, Chieh Min and Sheng Mu played smart game and took the set with a dramatic score of 21-19.
In the following game, both pairs kept on snapping each other’s heels in the starting half. Chieh Min and Sheng Mu committed a few unforced mistakes at this stage and eventually lost it with a decent score of 18-21.
In the deciding game of this semi-final showdown, Chieh Min and Sheng Mu played flawless badminton and took an early lead. They dictated the pace of rallies and also worked well at net to maintain pressure on their higher ranked challengers.
Chieh Min and Sheng Mu remained ahead throughout the deciding set and ended it with a superb score of 21-12. The Taipei shuttlers ended this semi-final contest in 52 minutes with a 21-19, 18-21 and 21-12 score on the board.
