Malaysia Open Super Series: Lee Chong Wei slaughters Kenichi Tago to claim eighth home title
Malaysia’s World Number One, Lee Chong Wei proved that he is unbeatable on home soil as he slaughtered Japan’s Kenichi Tago in the Men’s Singles final of Malaysia Open Super Series on Sunday, January 15, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
With this victory, Chong Wei has claimed his eighth Men’s Singles title at Malaysia Open and has also shut the mouth of critics who were talking about his dip in form for the last four months.
The New Year has brought Chong Wei two back-to-back victories in two consecutive events as he won Men’s Singles title in the Korea Open Premier Super Series just a week ago and now he has bagged the home title to claim his supremacy in the arena of badminton.
In the title match of Malaysia Open, Chong Wei started the first game in an aggressive fashion as he showed no respect to Tago and remained successful in setting up a stunning lead of 11-2 until the break.
After the 60-second interval, the local hero continued his impressive run in this final contest and did not spare any chance for Tago to fight back in the game. The Japanese committed numerous unforced errors and could not control the pace of rallies.
On the other hand, Chong Wei remained comfortable throughout the opening game and finished it with a comprehensive 21-6 score on the board.
In the following game, Tago played a little better and managed to set up a small lead of 3-1 in the opening rallies. However, Chong Wei controlled the pace again and started to play an attacking badminton.
The top seed dictated his Japanese challenger everywhere in the court and established an 11-6 lead until the interval.
After the one-minute break, the World Number One continued his stunning run without facing any problem from his rival. Tago tried to play attacking badminton but failed to destroy the defence of his higher ranked opponent.
Chong Wei was focused in the second game and cheered home fans by ending it with a remarkable 21-13 score on the board. He won the match in just 31 minutes with a comprehensive margin of 21-6 and 21-13.
