Malaysia Open Super Series: Wang Yihan hammers Wang Xin to bag Women’s Singles title
China’s top female shuttler, Wang Yihan, claimed her first Women’s Singles title of 2012 after beating compatriot Wang Xin in the final encounter of Malaysia Open Super Series 2012 at National Sports Complex, in Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday, January 15.
The top seeded Yihan, who is World Number One in Women’s Singles world standings at the moment, showed her impressive skills and won the fight against the lower ranked Xin, who is currently positioned at number two in the world.
Yihan had to work hard in opening game of the match and took it with a tight score. However, in the second set, she did not face any problem and won it with a one-sided score on the board.
The top seed took just 32 minutes in the court to prove her supremacy over Xin and won the match in straight games.
Xin, who has been in her prime form for the last six months, could not overpower her higher ranked team-mate and lost the final match without taking even a single game.
Yihan started the opening game in a dominating way as she took the bird early from all areas of the court and remained ahead of her lower ranked compatriot in the whole opening half. Until the 60-second interval in first set, Yihan was leading the game with a margin of 11-8.
After the break, Yihan continued her impressive progress in the game and reached at 16-12. At this stage, Xin played with a changed strategy as she started to execute cross-court drop shots from overhead area and managed to level the score at 17-17.
However, Yihan controlled the game again by playing well at net and managed to finish the first set with a narrow 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, Xin could not find her flow and remained trailing in the opening half. On the other hand, Yihan remained on track and played fast badminton which helped her to set up an 11-6 lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Yihan did not drop her speed and continued her impressive play in the whole set. She ended it with a superb 21-11 score on the board.
The World Number One took the final encounter of Malaysia Open with an impressive score of 21-19 and 21-11.
