Malaysia Open: Wong Choong Hann topples Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Malaysia’s veteran player, Wong Choong Hann, proves that he is still in good condition as he has defeated Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in the Men’s Singles qualifying round at the Malaysia Open Super Series in Kuala Lumpur, on Tuesday, January 10.
The World Number 43 Choong Hann, who has an extensive experience of international badminton, played remarkable game and won the match in a comprehensive fashion. He showed no respect to Saensomboonsuk and ended the fight in straight games in just 21 minutes.
The Malaysian started the first set in an authoritative manner as he dictated the pace of the game by taking the bird early at net. His shot selection was impressive as he targeted the loop poles of his Thai opponent. He anticipated the shots of his challenger
and maintained a wonderful pressure in the opening half of the game.
The powerful smashes and perfect drives of Choong Hann spared no chance for the Thai shuttler to match the pace of the game. Until the 60-second break in the opening set, the Malaysian managed to set up a good lead of 11-6.
After the one-minute break, Choong Hann remained on track as he played in the similar fashion. He played aggressive badminton and did not miss any chance to finish the rallies. Saensomboonsuk could not cope up with the speed of his rival in the opening game.
The Malaysian ended the game with a fabulous 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, the Thai lifted up his level and played positive game at the net and also executed powerful smashes on the side lines of the court. Until the interval in the second set, Choong Hann could manage just a one-point lead of 11-10.
After the break, the Malaysian geared up his speed and kept his rival away from the net. He was quite focused in the game and stretched without facing any problem. He maintained the difference in the whole set and ended it with a comprehensive 21-14 match.
The Malaysian ended the straight-set fight in 21 minutes with a 21-12 and 21-14 score on the board.
