Malaysia ensures Men’s Doubles crown in home event – Badminton Update
It is an all-Malaysia semi-final in the Men’s Doubles event of Malaysia Open GP Gold as its four teams captured all available seats in second last round of the tournament on May 4, 2012.
National Number one duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong set the foundation and then partnership of Mohd Zakry Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan doubled the celebration.
Later, the duo Teik Chai Gan-Soon Hock Ong joined the party before their compatriots Kah Ming Chooi and Yao Han Ow.
This splendid victory saga was started by Kien Keat-Boon Heong, also top seed couple of the tournament, who thrashed their Korean opponents Dae Eun Kim-Sang Joon Lee in just two games.
The Malaysian couple dominated throughout the tussle and their rivals were no comparison to their class. They registered their mark by putting commendable totals of 21-14 and 21-12.
Next chapter of this saga was even more impressive when independent duo of Mohd Zakry Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan earned the right to be in top four teams by edging their country-fellows Nelson Wei Keat-Ee Yi Teo.
However, it was not a smooth ride for Zakry-Fairuzizuan as they had to sweat hard for three exhausting sets to read favourable margins of 21-14, 20-22 and 21-17.
In third quarter-final of the day, another local pair Teik Chai Gan-Soon Hock Ong who represents Kuala Lumpur Racket Club (KLRC) also made their cut into semi-finals.
They sealed a straight-set victory over the spirited Malaysian couple Thien How Hoon-Wee Kiong Tan with convincing 21-18 and 21-19 scores on the board.
The last chapter of this saga was the most captivating one as the twosome of Kah Ming Chooi and Yao Han Ow overwhelmed the higher ranked compatriot duo Mohd Lutfi Zaim-Vountus Indra Mawan in hard fought two games.
Kah Ming-Yao Han, who were underrated partners earlier in this event, registered their presence by entering final figures of 21-18 and 22-20.
This fourth victory concluded a marvelous day in which four national campaigners clinched all vacant places in second last round of the event.
Now by setting up all-Malaysia semi-finals the hosting nation has a confirm Men’s Doubles crown in Malaysia Open GP Gold.
