Malaysia faces disappointment in series of European tournaments – Badminton News
It was sheer disappointment for Malaysian badminton lovers as all the national players could not lift the burden of their expectations and went down in complete series of European tournaments.
Malaysia had their stakes in Australian Open GP Gold, the Osaka International Challenge and French International 2012 but all of its shuttlers failed to escort the country to glory in these tournaments.
In the French International, young single shuttlers Misbun Ramdan Misbun, Goh Soon Huat, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Loh Wei Sheng were fielded but only Misbun Ramdan could survive until the final round as the other three crashed out of quarter-final
round.
However, Misbun also had to face the same fate along with his compatriots, the Women’s Singles shuttler Sannatasah Saniru and the Mixed Doubles pair Nelson Heg Wei Keat-Chow Mei Kuan. They all failed to rise against higher ranked shuttlers in final round
of French International.
The story did not take any turn in Australian Open GP Gold and all Malaysians shuttlers had to bid farewell before the final rounds. The Mixed Doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying was the only team who saved the honour to some extent.
Mixed Doubles experts surged into the final and earned a second spot on victory stand while the male couples Lim Khim Wah-Goh V. Shem and Hoon Thien How-Teo Kok Siang could not live up to their billing and faced an early exit from the event.
Malaysia also sent some youngsters in Osaka International Challenge along with experienced duo Vountus Indra Mawan-Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid but all the inexperienced shuttlers could not hold the pressure of international stage.
Last Malaysian hope was Men’s Doubles duo Indra Mawan-Lutfi Zaim but they could not go beyond semi-final round and got back home after losing to Indonesian pair Gideon Markus Fernaldi-Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra.
Now all these Malaysian shuttlers will appear in the Dutch International before they participate in Asian Badminton Championships in China.
It will be a huge task for these underperforming shuttlers to end the long streak of failures as all the participating countries will field their top players in these events.
