Malaysia to build well equipped training centre for local and international players in Bukit Kiara
Shuttlers in Malaysia have been facing problems in training sessions as they have to complete all sessions on different venues but now they will have a state of the art training centre as the government showed green light to transform Juara Stadium into
world class training centre.
The new training centre will cost approximately RM 50 million and it will be completed in a period of two years may be sooner as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) wants to facilitate shuttlers for the program of 2016 Olympic games.
In the recent past, all top athletes were struggling hard to complete their training considering that they had to use two different venues for physical and court training. However, after the construction of this new centre, they will be able to train at
the same venue which will save their time without getting frustrated to travel to another place.
Mustering it further, this training centre will not only serve the purpose for Malaysia’s elite shuttlers but will also facilitate foreign players as a training ground and, in this way, will generate revenue as well.
Training camps will be organised in this training centre for many Asian countries that do not have latest facilities for their players.
Ahmad Shabery, the Minister for Sports, indicated it a huge platform for local and international shuttlers where they will be able to elevate their skills by using the latest equipment.
He stated, “The Prime Minister has given the green light for the centre to be built at the badminton players’ existing training ground in Bukit Kiara. It will take massive renovation to transform the place into a state-of-the-art training hub.”
However, there are some negotiations underway for the adjacent land which is comprised on net bowl and lawn bowls. After resolving these issues, the construction of the training centre will kick off without any further delay.
Shabery further added, “It will take some time because we need to solve a few tricky and delicate issues. The premise is currently co-shared by netball and lawn bowls. We are in the process of negotiating with them.”
Datuk Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, the president of BAM, is optimistic that the construction of the centre will start very soon. He also said that the delay in the training centre for the last few years has already cost them from RM 30 to RM 50 million.
Besides these technical issues, the positive aspect of this training centre will be inestimable as players from all over the country and also from foreign countries will have a superb venue for training.
The expected time of the completion of this centre is two years, but BAM wants it to be built as soon as possible as there is not much time left to put the training plans into practice for 2016 Olympic Games.
