Malaysia to focus on Doubles category in absence of Women’s Singles shuttlers at World Championships
As no Malaysian shuttler in the Women’s Singles category qualified for the main round of the 2011 World Championships, the major focus of the Malaysian squad will be on the Women’s Doubles category. It is the first time that no Malaysian was able to qualify
for the mega event in the category of Women’s Singles.
In the Women’s Doubles matches, Ng h*i Ern – Ng h*i Lin and Wong Pei Tty – Chin Eei h*i will raise the Malaysian flag at the World Championships, which are set to begin from August 8 in London.
However, the Women’s Doubles draw seems tough for the Malaysian females as they will meet higher ranked shuttlers from Japan in the opening rounds. Wong Pei and Chin Eei will fight their second round battle against Japan’s Reika Kakiiwa and Mizuki Fujii,
who are seeded at number four in the Women’s Doubles draw of the mega event.
h*i Ern and h*i Lin are set to play against Japan’s Ayala Takahashi and Matsutomo Misaki in the second round of the draw. The Japanese pair is seeded at number fifteen in the World Championships.
While talking about the prospects of Wong Pei and Eei h*i, doubles coach, Rexy Mainaky said, “Pei Tty has been working hard to get back to good form and we still have hopes on them. They can go at least until the quarter-final if they can raise their game.”
The Malaysian pairs have to play at their best if they want to proceed in the event, as the Japanese shuttlers have been playing well for the last six months. The Malaysian females can make it to the quarter-finals if they play positive badminton against
their challengers.
The chances of Malaysia’s Women’s Doubles shuttlers to book a title berth are quite low as top shuttlers from China, Korea, Indonesia, Denmark and Chinese Taipei will be fighting hard for winning the title. Despite the uphill task, Malaysian shuttlers are
looking forward to putting up a good show against their rivals in the event.
