Malaysia v Tanzania – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cricket League Division Four 2012 (5th place play-off) – Match Recap
A half-century from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Shafiq-Sharif-c77311 enabled Malaysia to clinch 5th place in the recently wrapped-up ICC World Cricket League Division Four 2012, after beating Tanzania by 5 wickets during their 5th place play-off match, at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala
Lumpur on September 10.
Malaysia won the toss and elected to field first – a decision which was justified by the assaults of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Ahad-c84059 (10-1-33-3), Khizar Durrani (7.4-0-28-2), and Hiran Brahman Ralalage (9-0-40-2).
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhik-Ramesh-Patwa-c41748 (67) and Seif Khalifa (13), both of whom put together an opening partnership of 30 runs. Khalifa was trapped lbw by Ralalage in the 8th over, and Enjo Seti (1) and wicketkeeper
batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Issa-Kikasi-c64624 (0) were both sent back to the pavilion in the 14th over by Rashid Ahad, leaving Tanzania at 45 for 3.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasibu-Mapunda-c78707 (30) emerged as an effective partner for Patwa, and the two batsmen established a 66-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which got the team up to 111 by the 32nd over. Mapunda became the second batsman of the day to be dismissed,
lbw, by Ralalage, but his successor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamisi-Abdallah-c61368 (11).
His final contribution of the day was a 27-run stand with Khalil Rehemtulla (19), after which both batsmen were sent back to the pavilion in the 48th over. The remaining batsmen were unable to contribute much, and after the departures of Zamoyoni
Jabeneke (0) and Ally Kimote (1), Tanzania finished all out at 187.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shafiq-c89281 Sharif and Khizar
Durrani rescued Malaysia from a tight spot, and led them to victory.
“We bowled well but our batsmen have struggled throughout this tournament and we were in some difficulty until Khizar and Shafiq played well to get us through,” observed Malaysian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suhan-Kumar-Alagaratnam-c91681, after the match.
Malaysia opened their innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Faiz-Mohammad-Noor-c42316 (18) who joined Fetri for a 34-run stand, and
Alagaratnam (1) – were sent packing by Kimote, and by the time Fetri and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Anwar-Arudin-c76686 (1) were taken out of the game by Patwa, Malaysia were at 85 for 5 by the 27th over.
However, Shafiq Sharif (57*) and Khizar Durrani (49*) saved the day for the team, setting up an unbeaten 103-run 6th-wicket partnership, which got Malaysia safely over the finish line, enabling them to reach 188 with 5 wickets and 25 deliveries
still remaining.
