Malaysian Futsal Inter-Zone event
The Sabah Football Association Inter Zone Futsal Championship is scheduled to be held from 22nd to 24th of April. The event will be staged at Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
The announcement was made by the Sabah FA Futsal and Beach soccer chairman Mr Yamini Datuk Seri Musa Aman. He further said, "There will be two main categories in this year's championship and we want to encourage all zones to give their full participation
to help make this tournament successful.”
Teams from all zones of Malaysia will be invited to contest the tournament. Two teams from each zone comprising of a men's and a women's team will participate in the event. An inter district event will be held prior to the inter-district championship from
16th to 17th April.
There are six zones affiliated with FA including Sandakan Zone, Interior Upper Zone, West Coast South Zone, West Coast zone, North zone and Tawau Zone.
The Inter-District and inter-zone championship will serve as a platform for selecting the best teams for the Malaysian games. The Malaysian games will be held in Kuala-Lumpur in June. The best teams will also be participating in the national Futsal championship
which will be held at Matsushita indoor stadium, Shah Alam in May.
The Malaysian football association is planning to arrange a Futsal carnival instead of organising it in series format. The players can either register for the open or the Under-20 category. Once they register for a certain category they cannot switch to
any other category for the inter-zone matches.
Futsal in Malaysia is rapidly gaining popularity as the head office of the Asian football Confederation AFC is also based in the Country. AFC is providing its full support to the country in order to develop the game and make it a major sport in Malaysia.
The Sabah FA Futsal and Soccer committee held a coaching course earlier in February and also a referee course in March to develop the sport. There were 55 participants in the Futsal referee training course. These referees are now qualified for the Inter-Zone
tournament and should help the sport progress in the country.
