Malaysian Golf Association receives a grant of RM2 million – Golf News
The government of Malaysia has announced a RM2 million grant for the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) in order to improve the game standards in the country.
The announcement was made after Louis Oosthuizen registered a win in the Maybank Malaysian Open on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
Since the inaugural event was held in the 1962, not a single Malaysian player has succeeded in registering a win in the home tournament.
Therefore, the Prime Minister of the country, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, gave a grant that will help in producing home grown champions for the event.
"To that effect, a contribution of RM2 million will be provided to develop grassroots golfers in this country, to ensure a very well planned and systematic planning for development of golf, with proper coaching and opportunities to play," Najib said.
According to Najib, the grant will help in providing better opportunities to the local players and develop more interest among the people to enter the field of the sport.
This will result in grooming more talented players to higher levels with an aim to register wins on bigger Tours.
"With that, hopefully more Malaysians (golfers) will be able to rise to a higher level," he said.
Najib was present at the prize giving ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, to hand over the prizes to the players who participated in the Malaysian Open.
This year, Shaaban Hussin was the only player who made the cut in the event. However, he failed to impress the Malaysian golf fans as he tied for the 57th position after carding two-over par for the tournament.
He is currently working hard to make a mark on the Asian Tour by registering a win this year.
Recently, he participated in the Perak PGM-Clearwater Classic and stood second after losing to R. Nachimuthu in the sudden death playoffs.
Following his loss in the playoffs, he participated in the Singapore Open and finished tied for the 13th place.
While looking at his performances in the recent times, golf analysts believe that he has the guts to become one of the leading golfers on the Asian Tour.
However, a little extra effort and help from the MGA will make a huge difference in his game.
