Malaysian Hockey Federation decides to hold the Malaysian Hockey League this year
Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) finally decided to conduct this year’s Malaysian Hockey League at any cost after a consensus was made over the issue in the MHF workshop which was held yesterday, on July 17.
The Malaysian Hockey League will be held as a round robin event without the participation of national athletes, but will remain a part of the training squad for the preparation of 2012 London Olympics. However, this option
is subject to approval from the executive committee. According to the proposal, the MHL will be played, this year, in September and will conclude in December.
Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohamed Ariff, Chairman of the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) competition’s committee, said that they will look for the approval of the executive committee to implement the suggestion.
“It is good that we heard the teams and also able to discuss this option that was put forward. Our aim is to have a win-win situation. Teams are agreeable to having the MHL with the changes suggested. At the same time we will be able to ensure that
we get the sponsorship money which will go towards our other domestic meets as well,” Datuk Abdul Rahim stated his views about the decision regarding the conduction of the Malaysian Hockey League (MHL).
“We do have trouble making sure that we get the budget for the team each year and not having one this year will make it difficult to convince the employers to stay with the team,” he explained about the financial difficulties to which they may come
across in future if the League was scrapped this year.
He also stated that the Malaysian Hockey League must be held this year, with or without the participation of the national players.
The workshop in this regard was held because the national hockey team of Malaysia wanted their 25 players, which are part of the training squad, to continue training without any interruptions for the preparation of the Olympic Qualifiers. During the
workshop, it was also suggested that the MHL should be conducted after the conclusion of 2012 London Olympics.
