Malaysian Hockey Federation will decide the future of Malaysian Hockey League tomorrow
The Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) competitions committee has decided to have a meeting tomorrow regarding the issue of the commencement of this year’s Malaysian Hockey League (MHL).
Initially, the league decided the tournament to be played from the month of September to December. The first round had been scheduled to be played in September, while the elimination stage in December. But there exists some problem due to the non availability
of the national players to whom the team management want to keep in the 25-member training squad for the preparation of the 2012 Olympic Games. But on the other side, MHL participating clubs want to have their club players in the league as they are those who
support the players financially.
Maninderjit Singh, the secretary of MHF, stated that they cannot decide the dates of the competition and it is due the reason that the national team is still not informed about the schedule of their qualifying matches for 2012 London Olympics. The International
Hockey Federation (FIH) is still to decide the teams and one of the three venues, India, Belgium and Japan, where they will play their qualifiers for the Olympics.
“So, until we know where and when we are playing, the national programme is still running on an ad-hoc basis. This is affecting our domestic planning as well,” Maninderjit Singh, the secretary of MHF, further explained.
It seems a big task for the MHF committee to become with a definite solution of the problem as they already have three reasonable and convenient points in their mind.
The first point is to cancel this year’s MHL when Commonwealth Games were commenced in the country and the MHL was forced to abandon.
The second option is that the MHL will be carried out without the participation of the national players, but on this point there is also a disagreement as the participating clubs are not convinced on this point.
The third and the final alternative, which seems more suitable, is to allow the players to remain involve in the training in the first three days of week, Monday to Wednesday and in the rest of the week let them to represent their clubs in the league.
