Malaysian Hockey Federation yet to decide about this year’s Malaysian Hockey League
The Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) is still to plan about this year’s Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) and for which a meeting is going to be held tomorrow on Saturday, August 20 in which the federation will decide about the time, the format and whether
the national players will be allowed to feature in the tournament or not. The current uncertain situation has affected the participants clubs as they are unable to make any planning for this year’s MHL.
Sapura, one of the participant clubs, who won the League Championships in 2004 and 2005 and were also the overall champions in 2005 and 2006 are affected more as compared to other clubs.
"When the MHF leaves it to the last minute to decide on matters in the MHL, clubs are in a bind because we can't plan ahead," Abdullah Yunus, the manager of the Sapura, stated about the current tough situation.
Sapura are also waiting the MHF’s decision about the national players whether they will be allowed to play in the league or will be barred so that the club can decide about their local players and also about the foreigners
"To be fair to clubs, we need to be informed early if national players will be allowed or barred from the MHL so that we can approach quality local players, or just concentrate on the youth that we have,” Abdullah further added to his comments regarding
the decision about the national players’ participation in the league.
The current situation is the result of the Tai Beng Hai’s, the coach of the Malaysia national Men’s hockey side, opinion about the league according to which this year’s MHL should be postponed until after the Olympic Qualifiers, which will be conducted next
year probably in March, so that the training process of the national team may not be disturbed. It will be interesting to see what the MHF decides to plan for this year’s MHL, as any further delays cannot be good for either teams or players.
