Malaysian Hockey League Match between UniKL, TNB ends in 3-3 draw – Hockey Update
After a dazzling seventy-minute show between University Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the match concluded in a 3-3 draw that took place at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on September 25.
It was a shocking to see TNB, one of the favourites in the tournament as they failed to take the opposing team down and draw the game. The UniKL team which had the services of Projects 2013 players, displayed an impressive game and put in a tremendous effort
to keep the result equal after a tough competition. They not only proved their worth but also posed a threat for the other giants in the league. On one occasion, the University side established a 2-0 lead. However, they failed to maintain their lead and fell
down to a draw.
Amir Azhar, Manager of the University team while speaking to journalists stated that they should have won the game. However, lack of experience paid off for them in the form of a draw. He added, “It was a match that we should have won but inexperience let
us down. However, overall, I am happy with the spirit shown by my players.”
The manager continued that they could take the match into their favour if they did not miss the easy goal scoring chances. He further commented that they would have to make their defence stronger in order to give a tough time to their opponents. He said,
“We let in soft goals and need to work towards tightening our defence.”
Azhar was of the opinion that they were quite happy after marking two goals and were mulling to get three points. However, it was a reasonable show from them in the match against a talented team.
The match opened in quite a cautious way, as both squads were playing a defensive game. Conversely, it was University side that earned the first goal in the ninth minute of the mark at the hands of Noor Faeez Ibrahim. After exchanging a few attacks, the
UniKL team doubled the tally when Hafiz Zainal scored a goal from the field in the 25th minute. However the lead did not last long, as Amin Rahim scored a goal in the very next minute and reduced the lead down to a single goal. In the 48th
minute Faisal Saari scored a goal for TNB and levelled it. Amazingly, Saari and Ibrahim exchanged one goal in the last two minutes and concluded the match at a three-all draw.
Both teams fought hard throughout the match as each put in a decent performance on the field. It will be interesting to see how the draw affects the points for the teams in the league.
