Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open to be held from May 29
The Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open is going to be staged from May 29th to 31st at the famous Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Course, Bukit Kiara.
The tournament is going to see the participation of prominent Malaysian players who have been known to do well in the Open.
The last edition of the Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open staged a tough battle that was won by Malaysian Kelly Tan. Kelly Tan is IMG Leadbetter Golf Academy alum.
The officials of the Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open said that the successful staging of last year’s event has given them enough confidence and they are going to offer players more than they did last season.
Malaysian Ladies Golf Association (Malga) President Tunku Puteri Jawahir Tuanku Ja’afar was thrilled to announce the schedule of the tournament, saying all the officials of the tournament have done well to make things happen on time.
She shared her thoughts about the venue of the tournament, saying the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Course is best for staging an event like the Malaysian Amateur Open.
She said that the tournament has been seeking to gain the spotlight for the last three years and now the famous venue has been decided, players will enter the event with more interest.
She shed light on the prestige of the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Course, saying that the course is one of the best in Malaysia, far better than the Mines Golf Resort, where the last edition was staged.
“KLGCC has become a landmark and is also the venue of the Sime Darby Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event,” she said.
Tuanku Ja’afar said that the tournament is not limited to local players, as it is expected that players from other regions will also grace the event, making it even livelier.
“Last year we had golfers from Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, South Africa, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Norway, Thailand and Indonesia. We are expecting more this year,” she said.
She further said that the patrons of golf in Malaysia are taking keen interest in bringing more young talent to women’s golf.
“Our ‘Golf For Girls’ grassroots programme, which was initiated in 2006, has produced top players such as Kelly Tan ( Batu Pahat) and Aretha Pan (Kota Kinabalu),” she said.
