Malaysian Prime Minister praises national squash icon Nicol David – Squash News
Malaysian squash tennis icon, Nicol David, was praised by the prime minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, for her outstanding performances in the field of squash since 2006. She was congratulated by the prime ministers
on registering yet another record in the history of squash by securing her sixth consecutive world title earlier this year.
Prime Minister was extremely excited to see such a talented superstar from Malaysia that has been the biggest morale booster for all players at all levels especially the women that are pursuing their career in squash. Her unmatched
world records and ability to defend her title for six times in a row is just magnificent.
Razak praised her talent and proclaimed in a press conference “On behalf of the government and the people Malaysia, I would like to extend heartiest congratulations to Nicol. She should be made a role model because she is the most
successful sports icon in our country’s history.”
David’s triumph in Rotterdam sealed her 57th title win of her career. It’s such a remarkable performance that a normal player can only dream off. Staying on top of the ranking for almost five years and still not losing
focus is something breathtaking and such a talent is born once in a lifetime.
 28-year-old Malaysian was recently seen at the WSF Ambassador Programme in Latvia to promote the love of game in that part of the world. She has been working extremely hard and visiting several openings of programs that help youngsters
to groom into world class squash professionals.
Citizens of Malaysia honoured their national icon at the Kuala Lampur airport when she arrived after her sixth consecutive title defence earlier this year. People gathered in numbers to witness and honour their squash idol. World
number one was extremely happy to see such an eye-startling crowd that was there at the airport and proclaimed to the reporters “I played my best match ever to win my sixth World title,” admitted David after her remarkable Rotterdam triumph. But I would happily
trade all my six world titles for Olympic Gold.”
It shows that she is hungry for an Olympic gold and it will be fascinating to see her medal campaign in 2012 Olympics.
