Malaysian hockey team on a roll as they scored fourth consecutive victory on European tour
Malaysia’s national hockey team continued their brilliant performance against Spain, at different level, in the European tour as they defeated Spain’s Under-21 team by 3-0 in Barcelona. The victory was fourth on the trot for the Malaysian men, whereas they
already defeated Real Polo Club by 4-2, Atletic Terassa Hockey Club by 6-2 and Egara Hockey Club by 2-0 in their last three encounters.
The Malaysian coach looked content at the results of the matches along with the performance of the players at the Spanish campaign, the part of the European tour.
“It was a tight match considering the tactical discipline and ability of the young Spaniards. It also offered the chance to test our defensive resolve and I am glad the players followed instructions well,” Tai Beng Hai, the coach of national team stated
after the match.
“We were good in our counter attacks and was discipline in our marking and formed a tight structure around the 60m area,” he further stated in his telephonic interview.
“The defenders were discipline and did not to allow many circle penetration or goal shots by our opponents. We also ensured that the Spanish players did not get possession easily and that limited their attacking options,” Beng Hai further added to his comments
on the match.
The Malaysians started the match with full control as they took an early lead with just four minutes into the play, when Izwan Firdaus scored the opener for the tourists, which was beautifully created by Azammi Adabi, Nabil Fiqri and Baljit Singh. The Malaysian
doubled their lead just four minutes before the interval when Kelvinder Singh put the ball into the Spanish net. The final goal of the match was scored, just a minute before the end of the play, when Mohamed Amin Rahim made no mistake in converting a penalty-corner
into a beautiful goal.
Meanwhile, the first of the remaining two fixtures of the tour, against Spain’s national team, will be played on Tuesday, July 5, while the second one will be played on Wednesday, July 6.
