Malaysian pair of Peng Soon and Liu Ying stamp their mark in All England Open – Badminton News
The Malaysian mixed doubles pair of Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh has earned great deal of admiration as they stamped their mark in All England Open by making into the top four teams of the event.
The duo Peng Soon-Liu Ying locked the attention by performing remarkably well throughout their run which ended in a tight semi-final contest. They had to bow down against the Indonesian couple Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir, who later emerged as Champions
in the All England Open.
Their great run has raised Malaysian hopes for the medal in upcoming London Olympics as the World Number nine duo Peng Soon-Liu Ying will be striving hard to raise their country’s flag in the mega event.
However, recent back problem of Liu Ying, female member of the pair, is bit alarming for them but she is well aware of the danger as determined to elevate her physical strength.
She said, “I’m injury prone and that isn’t good. I will continue to do all that I can to strengthen my body. We are fortunate to have physiotherapists with the team as they have been really helpful. I have more knowledge now on how to improve my fitness.”
The Malaysian female mixed doubles players always have been tagged as weak support to their male partners but Liu Ying proved it wrong by showing strong character despite of her back problem.
The male partner of the duo Peng Soon, who came into the tournament after a tragic family incident in which his brother got stabbed, also proved himself mentally strong as he joined hands with his female partner to form an explosive team.
Their power packed performance in the prestigious event of All England Open predicts that this mixed doubles Malaysian pair will fetch the best for the country in future.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia designed a special programme for their mixed doubles experts under the supervision of Jeremy Gan which is now obviously yielding in their favour as the second Malaysian mixed doubles pair Ong Jian Guo-Lim Yin Loo also
showed signs of improvement in their short run of All England Open.
