Malaysian shuttler Lee Chong Wei continues his winning run without the assistance of Misbun Sidek
The top Malaysian shuttler Lee Chong Wei, who is also the current world number one, continues his winning run at the international level without the assistance of his former coach Misbun Sidek who resigned from his duties on December 31, 2010.
The top Malaysian athlete is focusing on his training for the upcoming events including the Sudirman Cup and World Badminton Championships. He is being trained by the national coach of singles, Tey Seu Bock in Juara Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
Misbun Sidek served the country as the national coach for Men’s Singles. He worked hard for many years to transform Lee Chong Wei into a world-class shuttler. Misbun resigned from his duties as a coach because of some wrong decisions taken by some officials
of the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
After Misbun’s resignation, Rashid Sidek and Teh Seu Bock were appointed to assist the national squad of Men’s Singles and Chong Wei started to play under the supervision of new coaches. Chong Wei seems to go ahead along with the current coaches. In training
sessions, he showed his usual commitment and remained engaged with all training partners. The national coach of singles, Seu Bock, closely observed his training and devised the new plans for making the training more effective.
The world number one skipped the German Open Grand Prix Gold in order to focus on training for the All England Premier Super Series. He found the fruit of his training and clinched the title in England by defeating Lin Dan of China in the final of the event.
He won the title of All England in 2010 for the first time and successfully defended it in the proceeding year. He said that he is doing well with Sue Bock and everything is getting in order. Chong Wei knows that without his previous coach, it would be quite
difficult to remain at the top as the world’s best athlete was quite comfortable with him. However, at the same time, he does not want to become distracted due to some issues going on between Misbun and the BAM.
Chong Wei has grabbed five major titles in the proceeding year including the BWF Super Series Final, Malaysia Open, All England Open, India Open and the recent Malaysia Open GP Gold. The top seed knows that he has to concentrate on training as he will be
facing the top athletes in the events of the Sudirman Cup and World Championships.
Chong Wei said that he does not know what is going on between the BAM and Misbun Sidek but he is hopeful for better consequences. The current coach, Tey Seu Bock, said that he is in contact with Misbun and regularly updates him about the training progress
of Chong Wei.
The coach also expressed that there are two major titles ahead and Chong Wei is in better position now to end the deadlock by winning the title in the 2011 Badminton World Championship, which will take place at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London, England,
from August 8 – 14.
If Chong Wei manages to win the World Championships title, he will become the first-ever Malaysian to win the honour.
