Malaysian shuttlers gear up as India Open organisers announce draws – Badminton Update
The Male and Female shuttlers of Malaysia are perked up as the draws of Yonex Sunrise India Open have been announced and the event will be in full swing from April 24, 2012.
Malaysian Men’s Singles squad will be led by World Number one Lee Chong Wei who is making a comeback after a shoulder injury. He is defending his title this year and has bright chances to accomplish the mission as he faces two dangerous contenders Peter
Gade and Chen Jin in the last rounds.
Malaysia will also bank on World Number 28 Daren Liew, veteran Hafiz Hashim and the youngster Chong Wei Feng in the Singles event.
Meanwhile, the Men’s Doubles event will see the duos of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Goh V. Shem-Lim Khim Wah with Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying representing their country in the Mixed Doubles event.
World Number eight Mixed Doubles couple Peng Soon-Liu Ying is in sublime form as they had a splendid run in the Australian Open last week.
Malaysians are ranked fourth in the Indian Open and they will not find any trouble to surge into the quarter-finals where they will be up against World Number two Chinese pair Xu Chen-Ma Jin.
In the Men’s Doubles event, the World Number eight duo of Kien Keat-Boon Heong will be the biggest hope for the country. However, to keep this hope alive they will be looking to surpass the top British duo of Andrew Ellis-Chris Adcock in the opening match
and then the Japanese couple Kenichi Hayakawa-Hiroyuki Endo or Liu Xiaolong-Qiu Zihan of China in the second round.
Top Malaysian duo has been under fire for their recent failures and now Kien Keat and Boon Heong are determined to make amends. If they reach the quarter-finals they will be looking to overpower their higher ranked rivals Chai Biao-Guo Zhendong from China
to continue their run in India Open.
On the other hand, their compatriots Goh V. Shem and Lim Khim Wah get an easy opening as they will face a qualifier in their opening tussle.
However, in the Men’s Singles event Daren and Hafiz will have to earn their spots in final rounds as they are subjected to tough trial in opening round where Daren is taking on Shon Wan Ho of South Korea while Hafiz will lock horns with Japanese shuttler
Kazushi Yamada.
