Malaysian shuttlers thrash Koreans to win title in the 2011 World Junior Championships
Malaysia’s junior shuttlers proved their supremacy as they won the title after thrashing Korean players in the Mixed team-event’s final of the 2011 World Junior Championships, in Chinese Taipei, on Monday, October 31.
The Malaysian players played phenomenal badminton and displayed their skills by beating the Korean opponents in a convincing fashion and finished the match with a one-sided margin of 3-0.
Malaysia’s talented shuttler, Zulfadli Zulkifli played the opening fight of this team event match against Korea’s Lee Hong Je. He started the game in a quivering way as he played defensive and confused game lost the opening set with a reasonable margin.
Nevertheless, the Malaysian came back in a striking fashion in the second set. He played with aggression and took the game with a stunning margin of 21-11.
In the deciding game, Zulfadli continued his attacking play against the Korean, who became defensive after winning the opening set. The Malaysian continued his positive run and finished the second game with a score of 21-14. The end result of this Men’s Singles fight was 17-21, 21-11 and 21-14.
In the Women’s Singles contest, Malaysia’s Sonia Su Ya Cheah played to her full potential and defeated Kim Hyo Min of Korea in straight games.
Sonia remained struggling in the first set and won it after a hard fight with a dramatic margin of 25-23. However, the second game was a smooth ride for the Malaysian as she spared no chance for the Korean to fight back in the match and won the set with a one-sided margin of 21-12. The final score of this fight was 25-23 and 21-12.
In the Men’s Doubles battle, Malaysia’s Teo Ee Yi and Nelson Heg Wei Keat stamped their mark over Korea’s Choi Sol Kyu and Jun Bong Chan. The Malaysia’s defeated the Koreans in three games with a margin of 16-21, 21-18 and 21-12.
After winning the match with a 3-0 margin against Korea, the Malaysians were quite happy.
Sonia said, “I am so happy I scored a point for Malaysia. The whole team was jumping for joy. Everyone did their best for the team.”
She further added, “This gold medal effort is my best in my junior career. Now, I hope to go as far as possible in the individual event.”
The individual event of the Junior World Championships will start from today.
