Malaysian striker S. Selvaraju likely not to participate in German Hockey League
Malaysian attacker S. Selvaraju is suffering from ankle-injury which reduced his chances to don the colours for the third time in the German Hockey League. He has great hopes to show impressive performance in the Division One representing Berlin Club in
the later part of the month.
S. Selvaraju – the Perak-born forward man had an ankle surgery in Kuala Lumpur and likely to recover from 20 days. He has had great delighters for getting offer for the consecutive second time from Berlin Club. However, there are doubts over his participation
in the league.
Talking to the media, he stated, “But the ankle injury dashed my hopes to play in the German League, which is considered one of the best leagues in the world. The Berlin club management was happy with my performance when I played for them in 2008.”
Selvaraju is the only player from the Malaysian national side who had participated three different leagues in the world. For the first time, he contested the German League back in 2006 representing the Monchengladbach Club. He had delivered impressive performance
and notched seven goals in the twelve games.
He received an offer from Berlin Club back in 2008 while Midlands Club also offered him to contest the New Zealand Hockey League in 2009. Amazingly, he received an offer from Racing Club de France and participated in the French League in 2010. In the Malaysia
Hockey League (MHL), he represented Tenaga Nasional for five years. However, he made a change and joined University Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) in 2010.
He had participated in 89 international matches representing the Malaysian national side. In the last version of the MHL, he led the UniKL and notched six goals. He was also part of the squad that contested the World Cup qualifiers back in 2009.
Selvaraju further stated that Manchester Hockey Club offered him to play in the first month of 2012 but he refused to do due to his commitments in the Malaysian league. He continued, “However, I hope to return to Germany next year to play for Berlin club.
For now, I hope to recover soon to lead UniKL in the MHL.”
It is worth mentioning here that Selvaraju is giving services to UniKL as a clerk. In the previous edition of the Premier Division of the MHL, the UniKL squad secured fifth place out of total nine squads. The team was comprised of two Kiwi players, two Germans
and local youngsters. It lost to Yayasan Negeri Sembilan (YNS) in the knock-out stage of the league. The upcoming edition of the league is likely to start from September 2011.
