Malaysia’s Goh Giap Chin cruises into quarter-finals of the National Junior Circuit GP Finals
Malaysian player, Goh Giap Chin has cruised into the Boy’s Singles Under-18 quarter-final, after defeating Chan Ren Cong in the pre-quarterfinal of the 100Plus National Junior Circuit GP Finals 2011, held at Bukit Kiara in Malaysia, on Friday, May 21.
Goh delivered a top-class performance against Perak’s Ren Cong and played in an impressive fashion. His reflexes were incredibly sharp in all areas of the court and his powerful jump smashes perfectly landed on the side lines of the court.
He showed no mercy for his opponent and finished the straight-set match in only 19 minutes, with a completely one-sided score of 21-8 and 21-13.
After his victory in the match, Goh said, “I definitely played better today compared to my first game on Wednesday. Overall, I was moving faster on court and there were little effect of the illness I suffered from a few days before the tournament began.
I felt like my normal self once again, playing a solid attacking game.”
He further added that he got a chance of a day’s rest before the pre-quarterfinal match, which helped him a lot in performing well.
The Malaysian added, “It also helped that I didn’t play on Thursday ... so I had an extra day’s rest to work on my flaws with my coach.”
Goh’s performance in yesterday’s match clearly indicates that he is ready to defend his title. He is gradually improving in all areas of the game and is expecting a fight against Zulfadli Zulkifli, in the semi-final of the event.
In the quarter-final of the event, Goh will be up against Teoh Khai Siang of Penang. The match will be played later today. If the defending champion continues his current form in the upcoming matches, he will have bright chances to defend the title in the
category of Boy’s Singles Under-18.
On the other hand, Zulfadli also spent only 19 minutes on the court and brushed aside Ng Di Hua, in a straight-set fight with a wonderful difference of 21-7 and 21-6.
