Malaysia’s Goh Giap Chin vows to defend his title at National Junior GP Finals 2011: Badminton news
Malaysia’s Boy’s Singles player, Goh Giap Chin vows to defend his title at the National Junior GP Finals 2011, which will kick off at Juara Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Wednesday, May 18.
In 2010 edition of the Junior Championships, Goh Giap made his presence felt by winning the singles title in the Under-18 category, in the presence of the favourite, Loh Wei Sheng. The shuttler knows that it will be his last event in the junior category
as he will become 19 years of age in the next edition of the event.
Goh Giap will be competing hard to clinch the singles title and his major opponent will be Zulfadli Zulkifli, who has clinched both legs of the Junior Circuit, in Negri Sembilan and in Malacca. Zulfadli is in tremendous form at the moment and there
will be a thrilling competition between him and Goh Giap for the singles title.
Goh Giap said, “It’s a very competitive tournament and on the day it can be anyone’s game. Zulfadli and Azriyn are among the best of the crop and I will have to look out for them. But I will not be putting extra pressure on myself and I just want to
get out there and focus on one match at a time.”
Goh Giap, who clinched the Boy’s Singles title in the Dutch Junior Open 2011, suffered by high fever just a few days ago, that also affected his training sessions.
“I had a high fever the last few days and I was unable to train well,” Giap said.
He further added, “But I had enough rest and I will be able to play a solid game and not struggle in the early rounds. It will be my last appearance on the junior circuit and I hope to live up to expectations.”
The Penangite is willing to perform well as he knows that his performance can bring him a place in the national squad by pulling the attention of the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
