Malaysia’s Goh Wei Shem and Lim Khim Wah confident to perform well in the Thailand Open GP Gold
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles players, Goh Wei Shem and Lim Khim Wah, are confident to put up a good show in next week’s Thailand Open GP Gold 2011, being held in Thailand, on June 7.
The pair of Goh Wei and Lim Khim was formed in 2010, after the injury of Teo Kok Siang, Goh Wei’s former partner. The Men’s Doubles coach of back-up players, Tan Kim Her, formed the new pair of Goh Wei and Lim Khim to check their co-ordination while playing.
Both shuttlers, as a duo, have participated in five local and international events so far. Their first participation was in the home event of the 2010 Proton Malaysia International Challenge, which was staged in Sabah, Malaysia.
Lim Khim, who was Chan Peng Soon’s partner, has been struggling with his new associate, as the duo only reached the quarter-final stage in the Asian Badminton Championships, held in China, in April, 2011. They lost their match against the top Chinese pair
of Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun.
Goh Wei and Lim Khim reached in the semi-final of the 2011 New Zealand International Challenge and also managed to play the final of the Kuala Lumpur Open 2011.
However, the duo could not deliver a good performance in the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, where they lost their match in the opening round of the event.
While talking about the performance of the pair, Goh Wei said, “I am aware that criticism will soon come because Khim Wah and I have not really been producing the best of results.”
He further added, “We have only played in one other tournament after the ABC appearance and lost in the first round. But as a pair, we are gradually improving with better communication and understanding on court.”
Goh Wei is determined to get good results and has set his target to reach in the semi-final stage of the upcoming Thailand Open. The coach is also expecting a first-class performance from the pair, as both shuttlers have the ability to beat higher ranked
shuttlers.
