Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong set to play together until the 2012 London Olympics
Malaysia’s top pair of Men’s Doubles, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong will continue playing together until the 2012 London Olympics. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) made the decision and added that the plans for Olympic preparations will not
have big changes.
Tan Boon and Koo Kien, who are currently having the world ranking of Number Five in the Men’s Doubles category, failed to live up to the expectations of fans at the 2011 BWF World Championships. They are the only hope for Malaysia to win a medal at next
year’s Olympic Games in the Men’s Doubles event.
The duo is determined to overcome their weaknesses for performing at their best in the 2012 Olympic Games. They have been struggling for more than one and half years to find their flow but are yet to deliver any remarkable performance in major events.
While talking about the Men’s Doubles couple, Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, the president of BAM, said, “The most important aspect we have to focus on is to find ways to overcome the weaknesses in their game and making sure they will place themselves in the top
four at the end of the qualifying period in April next year.”
He further added, “We have decided not to do anything drastic with the Olympic Games now less than a year away but we leave it to the coaching and training committee to decide on ways to bring them up again.”
Tan Boon and Koo Kien lost to Korea’s Yoo Yeon Seong and Ko Sung Hyun in the Men’s Doubles quarter-final battle. The Malaysian duo lost to the Koreans for the fifth occasion and they have never won even a single match against them.
However, the qualifying round for 2012 London Olympics is on the way and Tan Boon – Koo Kien will earn maximum points for getting a higher world ranking and find a better seeding in the Olympic Games. They will participate in the upcoming events of China
Masters and Japan Open, which will take place in September, 2011.
