Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei confirms his participation in FDG Cup 2011 in Philippines – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles ace shuttler, Lee Chong Wei has confirmed his participation in the FDG Cup 2011, an invitational event which will take place at the PowerSmash Badminton Centre at Makati, Philippines from July 1 to 2.
The World Number One Malaysian will be the top seed in the Men’s Singles category in this two-day event.
The winner of this year’s All England Open Premier Super Series and India Open Super Series will provide an opportunity for the locals to watch top class badminton in the event which will be organised by the Robinsons Land Corporation. The local shuttlers
will also gain inspiration by watching the matches of the World Number One.
Many other well known shuttlers from different countries of the world including Korea, will also participate in this event. The top shuttlers in Men’s Doubles category, Chien Yu Chin and Cheng Wen Hsing of Taiwan will also compete in this event. Chong Wei’s
presence in the tournament will increase the popularity of the game in the country.
Along with Chong Wei, the top Malaysia pair of Men’s Double, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat will also travel to Philippines to participate in this event. The duo has recently clinched the Men’s Doubles title of Malaysia Open GP Gold.
The Malaysian pair will put up a great show in this invitational championship, which will enhance the interest of the locals in this game. The major focus of the players will be on the open events, in which all leading players of the country will participate.
The local shuttlers, who have performed well in the inaugural event of Philippine Badminton Ranking System (PBRS), will be eligible to participate in FDG Cup. There will also be some rising stars of the Philippines who will gain experience by playing against
Chong Wei, who is the top shuttler in the world of Badminton.
