Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei looking for competitive Olympics performance – Badminton News
The badminton king Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia is undergoing ankle treatment and he hoped that the steady progress will ensure his presence in London Olympics, set to be held from July 27, 2012.
World Number one shuttler hurt his ankle badly in Thomas Cup Finals and he was advised to stay away from court for eight weeks which put his Olympic stakes in danger.
Now, the maestro has declared that he is all set to sweat hard to avoid being bleeding chips in the mega event. He has started light training and vowed to capitalise this preparatory period.
Chong Wei said, "I have started training this week and I have been doing track running since last week. I am improving and my objective now is to prepare as best as possible to compete in my third Olympics."
Meanwhile, he confessed that this ill-timed injury badly affected his morale as he was at verge of hanging up his racket. He commended the role of his near and dear ones in cheering him up during this bad patch.
Malaysian badminton ace unveiled that he has acquired the services of former mental trainer but he also admitted that London Games are so near that these psychological sessions may not yield desired results.
Chong Wei declared that he is focused to get rid of injury phobia and showed some positivity by hoping that he will be back in shape before the mega event.
He said, "What is important is for me to overcome the phobia. I have not fully overcome that but I am improving. I hope I can fully recover and give 100 per cent in London."
Moreover, he did not arouse any false hopes and clearly said that Olympic medal is not his top priority rather he is more concerned to his appearance in most prestigious badminton event next month.
He said, "Talking about winning gold, or medals for that matter, is still too early as I am still undergoing rehab and there is a lot to do.”
Chong Wei is in high spirits to join his team-mates in Olympic training sessions, starting from July 12 at University of Bath in England.
He was relaxed while discussing the presence of physical trainer Roesdi Ghani and Physiotherapist Sandra Fiedler in central training camp and hoped that their presence will work in his favour.
